It is an incredible story about one man’s fight to evade the law having escaped from an Australian prison, and the incredible journey that this takes him on. The novel is is in fact based on Roberts’ own life experiences having been incarcerated in Pentridge Prison in Australia after being charged with several armed robberies. He escaped the prison in broad daylight and went on to live in Mumbia, India for the next ten years.

His escape made him the most wanted man in the whole of Australia and he then fled the country, arriving in New Zealand. From here, he then journeyed to Mumbai, India where he stayed for the next ten years of his life. The story is brilliant in its description and prose and captivates the reader from start to finish. The protagonist falls into working for the Indian Mob, ends up in an Indian jail, and spent time working as a doctor in the rawest of poverty in Mumbai’s slums. The book depicts the fascinating journey of a man both literally and figuratively as he embarks on a life-changing experience. You can’t put it down, literally.
